 KNOWLEDGE OF: NCAA division 1,2,3 & NAIA eligibility rules and regulations, 

ABILITY TO: Coordinate efforts and work cooperatively with athletic staff, administration, academic counselors, instructional faculty, student support staff and student athletes. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, staff, athletes and other educational institutions and agencies. Determine athletic eligibility for student athletes at the collegiate level. Monitor academic progress of student athletes and prescribe appropriate intervention or referral when necessary. Assist counselors and coaches with high school presentations. Work with a diverse student population. Work independently with little direction; plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines. Use a personal computer for basic data entry/retrieval and correspondence consistent with requirements of position.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the school superintendent, the athletic director and in cooperation with the Counseling and Athletic Departments, implement the Student  Athletic Liaison Services (S.A.L.S). The S.A.L.S program includes a liaison with local high schools, orientation, monitoring students' matriculation status, tracking of classroom performance, tutoring and other referrals, and advising student athletes about athletic eligibility with their goal of graduating & attending college. Working in close conjunction with designated counselors in a cooperative team effort to ensure appropriate academic advisement and progress monitoring for student athletes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Utilize the educational plans developed for the student by the Counseling Department; monitor and advise student athletes on fulfillment of academic requirements specific to student-athletes with the objective being successful completion of an earned diploma and to attend a NCAA Division I or II, III or other four-year institutions. Remain apprised of, provide up-to-date information, and assist the student athletes in compliance with the (PIAA/WPIAL), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I,II, III and other four-year institutions' rules and regulations. Coordinate with the Counseling Office in evaluating high school transcripts and their impact on a student athletes athletic eligibility and educational plan. Work closely with the athletic administrator to advise on the eligibility status of student athletes and to coordinate sanctions relative to adherence to S.A.L.S Program. I Work with individual coaches in providing academic information to four-year institution representatives interested in providing scholarship opportunities to your districts student athletes. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Implement the Student Athlete Liaison Service which includes: development and periodic updating of the (S.A.L.S) Student Athlete Handbook provided each new student athlete; assisting counselors with preparation and delivery of information within the "course loads" designed for freshmen student athletes and monitoring student enrollment in the course; develop and maintain accurate academic progress reports on all student athletes so that the student can be informed as to their academic standing for graduation and eligibility; inform every head coach of the academic standing of each student on their team; compute the academic progress of student athletes on a specific team or student athletes on every team. Maintain membership and actively participate (PIAA & WPIAL/PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS 'CITY LEAGUE'), by attending meetings, workshops and conferences. The (S.A.L.S. Program) Also provides 1 on 1 training in athletics and academics by qualified professionals who excel at teaching/coaching all trainers and instructors are (ACT 34, ACT151, PLUS THE FEDERAL CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK) Certified.I Serve as liaison between Your School/Districts athletic program and other student services programs, such as Counseling and Guidance, Assessment Center, Career Center and Tutoring. Serve as liaison between intercollegiate athletics programs and local high schools; facilitate dissemination of NCAA and NAIA information to high school counselors, coaches and athletes; assist Your counselors and coaches with high school presentations.
 
GOAL: Our goal is to help/assist student athletes reach goals of continuing to play their sport & further their education after high school, by matching student athletes who are able to perform on the NCAA intercollegiate level, be it division I,II,III or The NAIA divisions. The (S.A.L.S Program) Allows school district to send more student athletes on to the next level for example: your district may assist 10 student athletes a year with what they need to go on to college on a scholarship of some sort, But with the implementation of the (S.A.L.S Program) you now are able to double the number of student athletes you assist, which will attract more families to come to your districts, purchase/lease property, pay school/local taxes & also make your program a winning program. We want our youth to be able to compete at a high level and to show the success from benefits provided by those who educate & coach them, as administrators you are directly responsible for the development of young minds who go on to do great things but have been educated by you & your program. The Average (HS) Coach has 20 players or more on any given High School team , The Coach is not obligated to get his athletes the opportunity to go to college, nor does the Athletic Director have time to write letters or make phone calls for all of the eligible student athletes who participate in your district. We work closely with all of your Coaches, Ad's and Student Counselors to prepare your districts student athletes for success on the next level
